For years, it has been nearly impossible to get chiropractic care covered through SoonerCare. Fortunately, as of January of 2022, Chiropractors are now on the approved list for SoonerCare members. While very few chiropractic practices in the state are on the approved provider list, Marshall Chiropractic is one of them.

Why See a Chiropractor

Chiropractic care is a form of alternative medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on the spine. The theory behind chiropractic is that misalignments of the spine, also called subluxations, cause a wide range of health issues. By using manual adjustments, a chiropractor helps to realign the spine and alleviate pain, improve range of motion, and promote overall wellness. Additionally, chiropractic care also helps with conditions such as headaches, fibromyalgia, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Regular chiropractic care also helps to prevent future injuries and illnesses by keeping the spine in proper alignment. It is an effective complementary therapy for individuals with chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis.

Some common reasons people seek chiropractic care include:

  • Back pain, neck pain, and headaches
  • Pain or discomfort in the joints, such as the hips, knees, or shoulders
  • Sciatica, or pain that radiates down the leg
  • Strains or sprains from sports injuries or accidents
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome or other repetitive stress injuries
  • Whiplash or other injuries from car accidents
  • Scoliosis or other spinal conditions
  • Fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Arthritis and osteoarthritis
  • Poor posture or ergonomic issues related to sitting or standing for long periods
  • Wellness care and preventative measures.

What is SoonerCare?

According to the State of Oklahoma, “SoonerCare works to improve the health of qualified Oklahomans by ensuring medically necessary benefits and services are available.”

This program is a way to help Oklahoma residents who meet certain guidelines to pay for medical expenses. The program is funded by the federal and state governments. The Oklahoma Healthcare Authority is the program owner and administrator. This state agency is the one that determines the eligibility for SoonerCare

Chiropractic Care is Now Included for SoonerCare Members

Under the new SoonerCare rules, manual spinal manipulation is the only chiropractic service that is approved. According to the Oklahoma State Government, “Manual spinal manipulation includes manipulation of the five regions of the spinal column for the treatment of back pain by a licensed chiropractor.”

Members qualify for chiropractic care when they are deemed “medically necessary.” This includes having spinal pain or a diagnosis of neuromusculoskeletal disorder. Members wishing to seek chiropractic care must seek out a pre-authorization and be approved before pursuing services.

Marshall Chiropractic is one of the few chiropractic offices that is on the approved provider list for chiropractic care under SoonerCare. We are delighted to offer this service to our community members on SoonerCare, and we look forward to seeing you all soon! Give us a call to set up your first appointment.
