What Causes Children Pain

Sharing is caring!

Hello! We hope that everyone is enjoying their days as we dive into Summer Time. The sun is out and everyone is ready to grill, swim, and enjoy family time. We are excited to see many of our patients enjoy the outdoors again. Our goal is always to enable people to enjoy their lives through our chiropractor Tulsa Ok treatments.

Today we want to talk about what causes pain among children. As many of you know, pain is not just reserved for adults. It’s true that children do bounce back quicker than adults, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be thinking about it. The goal for children is to always catch things early on as to avoid greater issues in later years.

Here are just a few things we want parents to keep an eye on with their children.

pain from gymnasticsAt a certain age, children want to do everything! Whether it’s playing sports at school or simply going outdoors, children have a passion for adventure. But those hobbies can lead to injury and if they go unchecked can turn into a problem. We encourage all parents to keep an eye on children especially those involved in sports. Sports that involve a lot of physical contact, like football, need to be watched closely. If a child is complaining or is experiencing ongoing discomfort, we want to check them out. It could be nothing or it could be something. Either way, it’s always better safe than sorry.

sports injuryThis is something that is usually passed up when it comes to children. The general mindset is that their young, healthy, and can eat whatever they want. But we must understand that children still need all the things that adults need. Exercise is crucial and ensuring they are receiving proper nutrition is vital. We understand that children love sugar, but watch their intake. This will not only put them in a better place to avoid injury but also build healthy habits throughout their lives.

The goal for our office has always been to build trust among our patients. Even though we might only see you a few times a year, we want you child painto feel confident when something comes up. This trust has to go to a whole another level when it comes to people’s children. When it comes to medical professionals, most people want to know that their child is in good hands. If we can take care of you then we want to take care of your children.

How Much Pain

Your doctors and nurses will rate pain on a scale from 0 to 10 (0 being no pain, 10 being the worst pain that can be imagined). Older children can understand this scale, but younger children can use cartoon faces or will be observed frequently for behavioral and physical signs of pain or discomfort.

Explain to your child that each face is for a person who feels happy because he has no pain (hurt) or sad because he has some or a lot of pain.

Face 0 is very happy because he doesn’t hurt at all. Face 2 hurts just a little bit. Face 4 hurts a little more. Face 6 hurts even more. Face 8 hurts a whole lot. Face 10 hurts as much as you can imagine, although you don’t have to be crying to feel this bad. Ask your child to choose the face that best describes how he is feeling. Rating scale is recommended for people age 3 years and older.
