The Warning Signs & Prevention of Alzheimer’s Disease

We all know or have heard of someone that is affected by Alzheimer’s disease in one form or another. Most of us have also heard some of the familiar symptoms such as: memory loss, difficulty performing familiar tasks, problems with speech or language, disorientation, poor judgment, misplacing things, changes in mood and behavior and loss of initiative.
It is estimated that the number of Alzheimer’s cases has doubled since 1980 and that 4.5 million Americans have the disease now. You may ask, “why such an increase year after year?” The American Chiropractic Association has offered some “natural prescriptions” for Alzheimer’s prevention. Long-term physical activity, engaging in mentally stimulating activities (ex. crossword puzzles), maintaining relationships with other people/social support networks and supplements such as garlic, coenzyme Q10 and omega 3 fatty acids (fish oils) are a few of the “natural prescriptions.”

If you or someone you know are suspicious of Alzheimer’s disease please consult your primary health care physician as soon as possible.

Did you know?

-It is estimated that by the year 2050, 11 to 16 million Americans could be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

-Mentally stimulating exercises such as reading, math and crossword puzzles can actually build neuron connections in the brain, thus helping prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

Have a wonderful day! God Bless.
